As if we hadn’t been busy enough, the last week prior to our mid term break was go, go, go. Monday saw the whole school at the swimming centre for their annual swimming gala. Last year Zac’s Danes won quite convincingly and had high hopes of defending their title.
The younger classes entered the pool first but, instead of races, they showed off their swimming skills in front of an appreciative audience of parents. Abbey was required to swim the width of the pool first on her front and then on her back. She accomplished both feats with a great deal of aplomb.
With the junior year levels complete, the remainder of the school filed in for their turn in the spotlight. Zac was set against the other year 4 boys (all 3 of them) and competed in three races: freestyle (or front crawl as it is called here), backstroke and breaststroke. Whether because he is a head taller, has feet the size of flippers, is simply a far better swimmer or a combination of the above, Zac won all his races quite convincingly! His wins helped catapult the Danes to yet another resounding victory.
After such a big day on Monday, the school was out in force again on Wednesday for their annual charity walk, this year raising money for a project in Uganda. A local field was marked out for the event with a long perimeter loop for Years 2 and above and a small loop set up to cater for Nursery to Year 1. Abbey, however, decided that she was not going to let the bigger kids rest on their laurels and took off at pace around the longer route. She was a little dynamo only stopping to get each lap signed off by her teacher and to get her ice cream after 10 laps. She completed a total of 15 laps and it was all I could do to keep up with her (lucky me being the only parent who actually got up and participated!) Not to be out done by his sister, Zac also showed his stamina completing 17 laps well ahead of many other children. I was very proud of both of them.
Alright! What's going on? We have done this one. There surely must be more!
