Having been successful in being selected for a posting to Saudi Arabia it was now time for Rich’s farwell from work. In the style of Warren, Rich chose to commemorate his farewell by having a walk in the countryside. This time, however, instead of going off the beaten track, the walk was to be the circular Bath Skyline Walk. The Bath Skyline Walk is 6 miles of way-marked trails on the hills to the south-east of Bath that takes in fantastic views over the city as well as hidden valleys, tranquil woodlands and a patchwork of meadows. Its also the most popular of the National Trust’s Walks, on the basis of the number of downloads of its map. As its only 6 miles (10km long) and we work just on the other side of Bath it was to be just an afternoon affair. The weather forecast was taking a bet both ways with occasional showers and sunny spells forecast but in the end the day turned out to be ok, if a little cool. One of the guys at work lives about two meters from one of the bridle ways that leads up to the walk (and more importantly ½ a mile from a canal side pub) so we started there and headed in an anti-clockwise direction. This meant we got the undulating sections, with fantastic views of Bath, out of the way early one before we went through some lovely woodland around the edge of Bath University. It only took about three hours and before we knew it we were back to the start and heading down to the pub for a few refreshing drinks. The pub turned out to be The George in Bathhampton which was the very first pub that Paula, the kids an I had been to in Bath. After a few beers at the George we walked along the towpath and into town for a curry at the Rajpoo Indian Restaurant, which is buried in the foundations of the Pulteny Bridge.
