Poor Abbey started the day with a ‘concussion’ that had nothing to do with sampling her first expresso martini the night before and everything to do with bumping her head on a low beam.
As the weather started out to be semi-decent, Nathan and I took a turn around Corsham before meeting up with the kids. Nathan then drove out to collect Freddie and we all touched base with Kate who had kindly arrange a tour of Heywood Prep.
The boys posed in front of the school honour board and we took in the significant changes since we left back in the December of 2012. Abbey’s preschool teacher Mrs Jones was still on staff (and remembered us!) as was her year one teacher Mrs Creighton (AKA the Hobbit). Most notably, the school had over doubled their intake, not bad for such a small campus.
The urban myth is Freddie got the top job when Zac was deported to the colonies.
We said a teary farewell to Kate, dropped off Freddie then headed out for another trip down memory lane this time to our first UK residence at Hilperton. We ate fish and chips in the park noting that the clientele had not really improved over time.
Our next stop was Laycock where, unfortunately, the Abbey itself was closed for the winter. We did have a great time wandering the gardens and popping into “The George” for a pint.
