Our First Pub lunch

On Saturday we headed out to pick up a hire car for me. Being very special (no comments please!) I am unable to drive a manual so we decided to hire an automatic to tide us over to when we can take the Citroen from the Glassock's. Thinking I was getting an Astra I was pleasantly surprised to find myself behind the wheel of a black Mercedes A Class. Nathan has told me not to get too used to it which seems a bit unfair.

Suitably well wheeled we left to have lunch with Shane and Diane and meet their two children Ash and Jessica who are 9 and 11 years. Also at lunch was another RAN officer, Don, and his wife Marie. They have teenaged kids (not present) and will be in Bath for another 18 months. We met at The George Pub in Bathampton. Just above the pub was a canal complete with boats and what you can't tell from the photo is that Nathan was smiling as over the wall behind the canal was a junior rugby game where all the spectators were decked out in coats and wellies and every second person seemed to have a dog.

The George was our first introduction to a real English Pub. It was suitably dark and stuffy and Nathan had to duck unless he was seated. The meal was fabulous though we declined having mushy peas with our fish and chips. It was a late lunch so we didn't leave until after 3pm. The weather had closed in and it already felt like night. After an evening drive in the Merc (and pouring rain) we headed home for an early night.
