Bath vs Saracens at the Rec 10th

Saturday saw us catching the train into Bath on our way to the Rec to watch the first home game of the season for the Bath Rugby Club against the London side of Saracens. The weather had been a bit dire during the week and today the skies were still threatening. Not to be deterred we packed rain coats just in case and arrived early so the kids could participate in the Family Fun Day being put on by the club.

Abbey shows her true colours – go Bath!

Hmm, free chocolate cup cakes. I hope they don’t expect this every game! (please note, we had to pay for the cider but it was worth it)

We were seated in the temporary stands which unfortunately were not under cover so we crossed our fingers that it would not rain. Zac showed that he takes after his father as they both knew the family who sat behind us. Their son had played rugby with Zac and his sister was as interested in sitting still as Abbey so they all got along just fine!

Unfortunately, the scores remained close throughout the match but by the 41^st minute in the 2^nd half we were ahead 26 to 25 so we thought the game was in the bag. As the injury time continued the Saracens were awarded a penalty and their kicker, who had been in fine form all game, did not waste the opportunity managing to bounce the ball off both uprights before it finally went over. Sadly, the final score was Saracens 28 and Bath 26. When asked how she enjoyed the game Abbey stated, and I quote, “I was really very disappointed that Bath lost.” Oh well, better luck next time.

It was getting on to 530 by the time we left the Rec so we decided to make and evening of it and headed down to Jimmy Spices for dinner. Need I point out that Zac was in buffet heaven!
