It was full steam ahead this morning. Nathan ducked up to Charlotte’s who had kindly left out the milk we had prepositioned with her yesterday. With the kids at least fed, we got busy stripping beds and taking down block-out curtains. I managed to flood the kitchen when emptying the sink as, with the removal of the dishwasher yesterday, I was unaware we now had an open outlet in the drainpipe. Just what you want with removalists nipping at your heels! In no time it was 8am and Nathan headed out the door with the kids and the truck was arriving. Poor Nathan had to return to the new house and attempt to finally finish the handover – you guessed it, this was still not to be a simple process!
By 10am the truck was on its way to Corsham whilst the landlady still hadn’t removed a set of drawers from inside the property and there was still a pile of furniture in front of the garage, the inventory was incomplete, the whole place stank of cigarettes (land lady obviously liked a puff or two) and it was still none too clean. No sooner had the truck arrived and we had begun unpacking than the distinct lack of storage really became apparent. If Nathan makes comment on the number of pieces of Tupperware I own one more time I may have to do something not very nice! I am grown up enough to admit though that, in this instance, he may have had a valid point. Scarily, even with every kitchen cupboard and both sideboards full to capacity I am still left with 4 huge boxes of items that simply have no home. Thanks also to our gracious landlady for removing the only set of built in cupboards in the place the master bedroom is a sea of port-a-robes which will just have to remain until we manage to hire at least 3 more wardrobes, and a linen press.
On the plus side (and it is a major plus) it took me 5 minutes to drive to school (in the pouring rain) to collect Abbey and it was not an issue to then have to turn around and collect Zac come 1630. Another ray of sunshine for the day was the fact that our neighbour actually brought over a home baked cake and box of biscotti – how lovely is that!
We continued our healthy eating with pizza for dinner then headed up to bed (3 flights) turning our backs on a house still littered with boxes, reeking of stale cigarette smoke and the discovery that we had no TV as the aerial didn’t seem to be present and the free to air satellite box left to us was not working – unless you wanted 14 different versions of BBC1 and BBC Alba (which we think is Welsh but could be Scottish). At least the kids did not have to do homework for the second night running so no complaints there.
