Day Two: Tuesday 4th

We awoke with an air of expectation today – after all, what else could possibly go wrong?  Nathan and the kids left on time at 8am with Nathan dropping them to school before proceeding to work for the morning.  I settled in for some hurry up and wait with coffee and a good book.  Just after 9am the electrician arrived.  He was a nice young chap and I couldn’t understand a word he said (think Brad Pit’s accent in Snatch).  On determining that the long florescent bulb in the kitchen was blown I believe he asked me if I had a replacement.  After some significant hand gestures I eventually answered in the negative and, god bless, he ducked out to an empty house on the patch and stole one of theirs (what do they say, Pike, Just Nick It!)

I was at a bit of a loss until lunchtime being unused to so much down time (no comments please!).  By 1130 I was bored and hungry so decided on an early lunch.  This was just as well as just after midday they dynamic duo arrived and it was like having the Tassie devil from Looney Tunes loose in the house.  If it was in front of them, they packed it.  Luckily, I am an organised sort of girl so had separated clothes required for tomorrow as well as breakfast supplies and everything else was quickly in a box and out the door.  At 1400 the hire furniture guys arrived to collect our white goods and kitchen table that were not required in the new house.  Yep, it was go, go, go until 1630 when my boys left for the evening leaving me in a near empty house with just beds, a dining table (no chairs), the couch and TV for company (had to ask them to leave this as the final for the Great British Bake Off was on tonight!)

Meanwhile, Nathan was having some fun of his own.  By 1400 he was back at the new house trying desperately to complete our handover, which had been rescheduled for this afternoon.  Despite assurances that the cleaners had gone through the place, things still were not quite right.  The inside of the dryer, for example, was simply coated in layers of dust and the filter told a story of many loads of laundry a little like sedimentary rock tell a story and the landlady still hadn’t removed some furniture from the property.  On the plus side the cat turned out to belong to a neighbour and just had visiting rights to our new place.

With the ‘handover’ dragging on, poor Nathan had to duck away, collect the kids, and then return for more fun.  They finally arrived home just after 5pm with the handover still not completed.

With the majority of the house packed, it was off to the pub for dinner tonight.  The kids were thrilled and the evening for them was made even better when we declared that it was a no homework zone.  After a hearty meal it was home to bed (and the Great British Bake Off final) in preparation for D-Day tomorrow.
