Joy oh joy, the heavens had
opened overnight so today dawned quite wet and miserable – perhaps the UK’s way
of making leaving just a little bit easier? The kids and I enjoyed another lovely hotel breakfast leaving
Nathan to have a little lie in. I
then proceeded to walk the kids through driving wind and rain up the High
Street to school (leaving Nathan still having a little lie in!) It was somewhat sad seeing them head
off to their class rooms for what will be the final time. Several parents did there utmost to
make me cry stopping to say goodbye – I am betting that it will all be somewhat
emotional at school pick up at noon.
Very
excited before their final day at school
After Nathan’s later
breakfast he joined me and what turned out to be a rather large group of my
school friends for morning tea (Italian restaurant again!) It was time for more tears on my part
when they presented me with a triage of sketches of Corsham landmarks as a
going away gift. We then headed up
to watch the ‘Award Giving’ assembly at school and were delighted when Abbey
took home the Year Two prize for ‘Effort’. As was pointed out at the time, it is not many children who
will give their all in every subject!!
The assembly was concluded with the hand over of power from Head Boy Zac
to his successor and we were extremely pleased when Freddie was called forth to
take up the helm. Zac made a great
show of shaking Freddie’s hand like a proud Dad and Freddie had his new blue
jumper on before he had even returned to his seat!!
Our
little girl with her “Effort” award and her friend Alice who took out the prize
for “Attainment”. Definitely a
case of girl power in Year two!

Oh
yes, from one pair of ‘safe hands’ to another!
There were more tears in the
playground as the kids finished school at noon (Zac even told me to stop
embarrassing him!) It was touching
to see how many people made the effort to come up and wish us luck with even
the staff making sure to say goodbye to the kids. Abbey’s form teacher from last year even had her class make
up a farewell card and gave her a tiny rabbit in a tin – quite obviously she
knows our daughter well!
It was then back to our now
regular Italian restaurant with the majority of the Year 6 class for a rather
rowdy lunch. Once again I managed
a few teary farewells with the parents!
Clockwise:
Abbey, Ioanna, Natasha, Jade, Alice, Harriet, Amelia, Archie, Freddie, Zac and
William
Nathan couldn’t join us for
lunch as he had a few last official removal duties. He had the fun task of being present for the hand over of
our rental property – at which our lovely land lady was in attendance. He took no prisoners with her when she
tried to complain about a few items with even the real estate agent admitting
that we had left the place in far better condition that we had found it.
Following lunch Zac went off
with his English family (AKA the Peaches) for an afternoon of bowling and one
final sleep over. Abbey and I had
some down time at the hotel before joining some other kids to watch Ice Age at The
Pound. We returned to the hotel to
find out our neighbours, Peter and Felicity, had made effort to come in for a
farewell drink and joined them prior to having a lovely pub dinner – yeah, not
one Italian in sight!!
All told it was a successful
end to our removal period (barring our sea freight goods being taken out by
Somali pirates!) We now only have
one final farewell, to Freddie and his family, tomorrow and I think tears will
be a sure thing all round.
